He was predeceased by: his parents, Jack Buchanan and Dorothy Buchanan; and his brother Maxie Buchanan. He is survived by: his wife Kathy Shivley Buchanan; his children, John M Buchanan (Shawna) of Port Neches, Brian Buchanan of Port Arthur, Jacob Buchanan (Janell) of Nederland and Gena Dale (Adam) of Nederland; and his siblings, Jack Buchanan (Judy) of Port Acres, David Buchanan (Peggy) of Wildwood, Dorothy Buchanan Theriot of Johnson City and Sandra Buchanan Stowers of Nacogdoches. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
