It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of James Richard Newsom (Port Arthur, Texas), born in Crockett, Texas, who passed away on April 20, 2025, at the age of 97, leaving to mourn family and friends. You can send your sympathy in the guestbook provided and share it with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Newsom and Minnie Newsom; and his siblings, Dorothy Sanders, Charlie Newsom, Bill Newsom and June Odor.
He is survived by: his children, Elida Bertrand (Ed Wiltz), Richard Newsom (Sandy), Janella Adele Newsom (Scott Bernard) and Damian Newsom; and his wife Adele Newsom. He is also survived by his family, which includes ten grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 1st 2025 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Life Church (4600 Jimmy Johnson Blvd, Port Arthur, TX 77642). A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, May 1st 2025 from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in honor of James "Jimmy" "Chief" Richard Newsom may be made to the Port Arthur Police Department, P.O. Box 1089, Port Arthur, TX 77640.
