He was loved and cherished by many people including: his sister Madeline Brown of Nederland; his wife Roberta "Cookie" Crane; his children, Donald W. Crane, Jr., Cheryl Ann Edgerly, Nelson, Jr. of Groves and Thomas Alan Crane of Port Arthur; his stepson Michael Mallet of Austin; and his sister Ruby Lea Welborn. He was also cherished by eleven grandchildren eighteen great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
