He was predeceased by: his son Colby Dunavan; his siblings, Merle Dunavan Jr., Patrick Dunavan and Mari Dunavan; and his parents, Merle Leo Dunavan and Helen Grace Miller.

He is survived by: his wife Joan Kostansek; his daughter Lindsey Dunavan; his grandchildren, Camden Price, Wesley and Whit Dunavan; his brother Donald Dunavan; and also Colleen Dunavan.
