He was predeceased by: his parents, Brunke George Schmidt and Martha Caroline Hauptmeier Schmidt; his wife Doris Schmidt; his brothers, Marlin Schmidt and Wilmer Schmidt; his daughter Carolyn Peterson; and his great grandchild Liam Peterson.
He is survived by: his sister Rae Jean Murphy (Frank) of Greenfield; his children, Christine Schmidt Savage (Bob) of Blacksburg and David Schmidt of Grain Valley; his son-in-law Wes Peterson of Breckenridge; his grandsons, Scott Peterson (Natalie), Jay Peterson (Lindsay), Benjamin Savage and Brian Savage; and his great grandchildren, Jackson Peterson and Jillian Peterson. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
