He is survived by: his wife Nina Cudd Merkel; his children, Eddy Merkel (Lisa) of Booker, Jeff Merkel (Michele) of Canyon, Texas and Kay Merkel of Booker; and his grandchildren, Tyler Merkel (Valerie), Trevis Merkel (Meagan), Trenton Merkel (Charity), Tiffeney Merkel, Chris McDonald (Kendra), Kelsie Hay (Neal), Keaton Burt, Keelie Burt, Addison Merkel and Tori Merkel. He is also survived by seventeen great-grandchildren.
