He is survived by: his parents, Rafael Mercado and Maria Elvia Contreras; his wife Maricelia Mercado; and his children, Gerardo Mercado, Eduardo Mercado, Yosselin Mercado and Geraldine Mercado. He is also survived by his 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
