He was predeceased by: his parents, Statham Harper and Opal Fuller Harper; his son Scott Wesley Harper; and his brothers, W. S. Harper, Billy Harper and Jack Harper.
He is survived by: his wife Myrleen DeSart Harper; his son Jeffrey Robert Harper; his daughter-in-law Cathy Wiggs Harper; his grandchildren, Alexander, Jackson Harper and Madison Harper; and his close friend Lexi Lee.
It was Shelton's wish that any memorial tributes be made in the form of charitable donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
