Garlan Musser Obituary
Funeral services for Garlan "Wally" Musser, 80, of Paradise, Texas, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at First Baptist Church of Cottondale, with burial to follow at Eastside Cemetery in Bridgeport, with full honors. Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Monday, April 29, 2024, at Hudson & Torres Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport.
Pallbearers will include Heath Wilson, Braden Wilson, Chris Wilson, Josh Tankersley, James Tankersley , and Joseph Wilson.
Wally was born on August 3, 1943, in Richmond, Virginia, to Lilburn Garlan Musser and Elizabeth (Bristow) Musser. He married Janice (Baskette) Musser in 1974 and was happily married for over 50 years until his passing. Wally served over 20 years in the Air Force where he received a Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, as well as numerous other awards, before retiring as Chief Master Sergeant. Afterward, he worked at TXI in maintenance and enjoyed fishing in his spare time. Wally also started a bus ministry at First Baptist Church of Cottondale where he was a long-time member.
He is survived by his wife, Janice Musser; sons Garlan J. Musser and wife Tammy and John F. McNamara; daughters Shelley Sawhook, Shannon Koonsman and husband Kenneth; sisters Mildred Wall, Gaynell Grubbs, and Pam LaFoon; grandchildren Christopher Wilson and wife Shelby, Steven Wilson, Heath Wilson and wife Brittanie, Josh Tankersley, James Tankersley and wife Carmen, Rebecca Harper and husband Chase, Meagan Offerle and husband Brandon, Jennifer Parker and husband Ivan, Logan McNamara and wife Ashley, and Jamie Sawhook; numerous great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends.
Wally is preceded in death by his parents Lilburn Garlan and Elizabeth Musser; daughter Sheila R. McNamara; grandsons Travis Tankersley, Anthony Tankersley, and Jason Musser; and great-grandson Shawn Carter.
