Sylvester Polk III Obituary

On December 23, 1945, in Palacios, Texas, a baby boy was born to the late Sylvester Polk II and Earline Haynes Polk, whom they named Sylvester James Polk III. He was the second of four children to this union. At the age of 10, Sylvester confessed to Christ while attending Pilgrim Rose Church. Sylvester was reared in Palacios, Texas where he attended public schools and graduated from Palacios High School.

He was one of the players that took Palacios football team to the State Championship game in 1964. Growing up he was affectionately known as Junior, Sly, Sunbunch, Kojack, and Sylvester. Sylvester was employed by Alcoa and retired after 25 years of services. He entered into eternal rest at 12:30 a.m. on January 15, 2018 at the blessed age of 72 years old.

Sylvester was preceded in death by parents; son, Sylvester IV; brother, Leonard and sister, Mozetta. On January 29, 1988 he was united in holy matrimony to Equla Franklin to this union two boys were born. He leaves to cherish is most precious memories to his wife of 29 years Equla Polk of Palacios; five sons, Jonathan Polk, Michael Polk, I. J. Polk (Melanie), Daniel Polk (Deloris) and Terrell Lee; two daughters, Mia Edwards (James) and Tonya Cobos (Joel); daughter-in-law, (Jessica); four brothers; seven sisters; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends who will miss him tremendously.
