Funeral services for David Mayfield Watson Sr., 75 of Paige, Texas are scheduled for 10:00 am on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at Timberline Fellowship in Paige, Texas with Pastor Rusty Cook officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Bastrop County Veterans Honor Guard. Burial will take place at 11:00 am on Thursday, November 10, 2022 at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 4, 2022 from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm and on Saturday, November 5, 2022 from 7:00 am to 8:00 am at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings. The family will be present Friday evening from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

David Mayfield Watson Sr. was born on April 14, 1947 in Dublin, Georgia to Navy Lieutenant David Hansford Watson and Dorthea (Mathieson) Watson. David was raised in Lebanon, Tennessee. On February 28, 1970, he was united in marriage to Angelika "Angie" Sasko in Fredericksburg, Texas. They were blessed with two sons. In 2014, he retired to Paige, Texas with his wife to be near his sons and grandchildren.

David was a Vietnam veteran serving 4 years in the US ARMY ASA (Army Security Agency) from 1966 to 1970 and serving 17 years in the US Air Force from 1972 to 1989. While stationed at MacDill AFB, under Joint Communications Support Element, he was in Grenada and various other missions. Awards and ribbons earned while serving his country were National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Sharpshooter (Rifle), Vietnam Service Medal with 1 Silver & 1 Bronze Service Star, Expert (M-60 MG), Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 6 Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Training Ribbon, Humanitarian Service Medal, Air Force Overseas Short Tour Ribbon with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Overseas Long Tour Ribbon, Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters, NCO PME Grad Ribbon, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. From 1989 to 2014, David worked as a US Army Contractor with ManTech in Turkey, Germany, Afghanistan, and Iraq. He was a lifetime member of the VFW in Augsburg, Germany and Bastrop, Texas.

David went to be with the Lord on October 30, 2022 at his home in the comfort of his loving family.

He is preceded in death by his parents, David & Dorthea Watson, and brother-in-law, Herman Sasko.

David is survived by his loving wife of 52 wonderful years, Angelika "Angie" Watson of Paige; two sons, David Watson Jr. of Paige and Brian & Melissa Watson of San Antonio; four grandchildren, Carma Jade Watson and significant other Angel of Smithville, Brandi & Victor Blanco of Bastrop, Bailey Williams of Bastrop, and Jayden Williams of Bastrop; great grandson, Desman Blanco of Bastrop; three sisters, Sally Dea & Thomas Hooker of New Mexico, Melissa & Larry Ruf of Georgia, and Dale Susan & Chris Hazen of Arizona; two sisters-in-law, Ingrid Kruse and Anny Weed; five brothers-in-law, Stefan Sasko, Semon Sasko, Martin Sasko, Manfred Sasko, and Guenther Sasko, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.

Memorials may be made to Compassus Hospice, Timberline Fellowship, or to a local VFW.
