He was predeceased by: his parents, Sally Megarity Armstrong and John Armstrong; his brother John Armstrong Jr.; and his former wife Corolyn W. Armstrong. He is survived by: his wife Dixie Armstrong; his children, Agatha Armstrong, John Saldivar, Andie Plymale (Gary), Amanda England (Lanny), Amie Kirk (James), Sam Armstrong, Jr. (Valerie) and Nicholas Glasscock (Stacey); his grandchildren, Angela Sedlacheck (Robert), Charles Koch (Melissa), Ruth Plymale, Mary Larlee (Nate), Sarah Sullivan (Aaron), Luke England (Kiersten), Julie England, Savanah Beattie (Mat), James Kirk, Steven Kirk, Brian Armstrong and Laura Williams (Craig); and his great grandchildren, Robert Sedlacheck, Jr., Brendan Koch, Oak, Iris, Eve Larlee, Grace, Ted Sullivan, Ridge England, Alexa and Banner Beattie.
