He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Hastings and Viley Hastings; his siblings, Johnny Lee Hastings, Edmond Dell Hastings, Martin Hastings, Joe Hastings and Lona Bell Young; his children, Patsy Ann Newsom and Marvis Wayne Hastings; and his sons-in-law, Frankie Allen House and Stephen James Schultz.
He is survived by: his children, Linda Dell Hoover (Jerry Hoover) of New Caney, James Eskill Hastings, Sr. (Little Jimmy), Barbara Lorraine Schultz of Atascocita and Rita Lou Parks (Samuel Scott Parks, Sr.) of Huffman; his son-in-law Joe Leonard Newsom of New Caney; his grandchildren, Cynthia Ann Jones, Joseph Wade Smith, James Allen Hoover, John Levi Smith, Jeffrey Wayne Hoover, Jacynda Michelle Autenreith, James Eskill Hastings, Jr. (Bubba), Patrick Dewayne Hastings, Samuel Scott Parks, Jr. and Kayla Lane Parks; and his sisters, Josephine McCoslin, Ava Nell Leach and Mary Ann Gafford. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
