He was predeceased by: his parents, James Madison Echols and Allie Mae Echols (Easley); his sons, Baby Boy and Kevin Heath Echols; his siblings, J. C. Echols, W. H. Echols, Buster Echols, Bill Echols, Thelma Howe, Maye Thomas and Mary Ellen Malone; and his stepson Brett Box.
He is survived by: his former wife Marilyn Marquetta Kellar; his wife Elizabeth Echols of Olney; his children, Waynette Duncan of Megargel and Jim Short of Bastrop; his brother Joe Loyd Echols of Olney; his grandchildren, Stefanie, Derek Duncan, Don and Shawn Short; his stepchildren, Bryan Box of Lakeside City and Brandi Self of Keller; and his stepgrandchildren, Alexis and Brea.
