He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, William Smith and Maudie Smith; his wife Eleanor Lynn Barnard Smith; his daughter Beverly Lynn Shultz; his son-in-law Dr. John Michael Shultz; his grandchildren, Sarah Lynn Shultz, Scott Michael Shultz and Katherine Elaine Shultz; and his pet Sadie.

In lieu of any conventional gesture of condolence, he asked that friends and loved ones donate to his favorite charity, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, or the charity of their choice.
