He was predeceased by: his parents, Ed Kankey and Vester Kankey; his siblings, Donneta Kankey Hall and Dewayne Kankey; his niece Donna Hall; and his nephew Victor Kankey.

He is survived by: his wife Marcella Bagwell Kankey; his children, Deborah Kankey Blount and Greg Kankey; and his grandchildren, Rachel Kankey, Rebecca Kankey, Jacob Kankey, Steven Crandall and Matthew Crandall.

He volunteered his time after retirement with many friends and charity organizations.
