He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Whitley (Bob) and Comer Milikien Whitley of New Waverly, TX.; his grandmother Margaret Milikien; his stepmother Beulah Mae Grimmet; his half-brother Robert Sims Whitley; and his great grandchild Madelynn Iris Kay Rast.
He is survived by: his wife Cynthia Dale Whitley (Merrell); his children, John (Julie), Daphynie Rast (Don) and Delia; his grandchildren, David Roark, Brandon Etie, Alan Etie (Brittany), Ethan (Angeliyah Rast) and Bailey Rast; and his great grandchildren, Evan, Seth, Brantley and Easton.
Michael went on multiple collecting trips with SHSU in Mexico, donated many specimens to SHSU and participated in bird counts for the Audubon Society.
