He was predeceased by: his parents, Lee Authur and Nannie Pearl Shirley Sands; and his siblings, Shirley Brown, Peggy Ketner, John Sands, Owen Sands and Kenneth Sands.
He is survived by: his significant other Jerrie Sands (Shaver); his daughter Melissa; his son-in-law John Cawyer; his son Russell; his daughter-in-law Rose Sands; his grandchildren, Tyler Sands (Sarah), Samantha Laborde (DC), Hunter Sands (TaNia) and Herica Bandieri; and his siblings, Jackie Sands (Linda) and Judy Potts. He is also survived by nieces and nephews; and many friends.
