He was predeceased by: his parents, Lester Thomas Akins and Rosa Mae Murphy Akins; his daughter Mina Akins Brees; and his siblings, Georgia Mae Tuttle, Bill Akins and Freddie Akins.
He is survived by: his child Martin Ray Akins; his wife Dorothy Virginia Schultz Akins; his children, Laura Riahi (Sia) and Marty Akins (Pam); his grandchildren, Drew Brees (Brittany), Reid Brees (Allison), Tara Akins (French), Angela Akins Garcia (Sergio) and Ryan Riahi (Colette); his great grandchildren, Baylen, Bowen, Callen, Rylen Brees, Vivienne Akins-Smith, French Smith, Delaney Brees and Roman Riahi; and his sister Loretta Smith. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
