He was predeceased by: his parents, Rosalio S. Luera and Francisca J. Luera (Ramirez); his wife Bessie Mae Whisenhunt; his son Robert Whisenhunt; and his siblings, Terezo Luera Sr., Jacinto Luera and Antonia Reynero.
He is survived by: his siblings, Elena Hernandez of Dumas, Inez Garza of Muleshoe, Nancy Solis of Muleshoe, Texas and Cruz Luera Sr. of Abernathy, Texas. He is also survived by his two granddaughters; and many nieces and nephews.
