He was predeceased by: his parents, William A. Cotten and Willie Mae Cotten (Brown); his former wife Mary Katherine; and his siblings, Charles W. Cotten, James L. Cotton, Pocahantis Whitby and Joann Stansbury.

He is survived by: his children, Larry (Carolyn Cotten), Danny (Carla Cotten) and Lisa (Rick Graham).
