He was predeceased by: his parents, Cecil Childre and Joyce Childre (Simmons); his wife Judi Childre (Ogilvy); and his granddaughter Dakota Lynn Childre. He is survived by: his children, Brandon Childre of Mount Calm, Tommie Childre of Mount Calm and Vicki Childre Buckner (Ray) of Axtell; his grandson William Sterling "Bubba" Hicks III of Hubbard; and his brothers, Steve Childre (Sharon) of Marlin and Mark Childre of Whitney. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and other extended family.
