He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl Oakes and Gladys Long Oakes; his mother-in-law Nellie Anderson; and his sister-in-law Jennie Oakes. He is survived by: his wife Virginia Oakes; his daughter Melissa Oakes; his grandchildren, Greg, Nick, Bryan, Walker and Katlyn; his stepson John English (Birdie); his stepgrandchildren, Jenna, Carter and Addison; his great grandchild Ryliegh; his brother C. W. Oakes; and his nephew Edward Oakes (Sherry).
