He was predeceased by: his parents, Juan Antonio Vela and Petra Villarreal; his wife Estela Farias Vela; and his sons, Jose Carlos Vela and Ricardo Vela.
He is survived by: his children, Juan Antonio Vela, Maria Estella Sandoval of Colorado, Jesus Vela, Roberto Vela, Eduardo Vela, Joel Vela and Jaime Vela. He is also survived by Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren and Great Great Grandchildren.
