James E. Cowan Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of James E. "Jim" Cowan on December 21, 2024 at the age of 81. Jim was born December 7, 1943 in Santa Monica, California to James and Marjorie Rosewald Cowan.

Jim met his wife, Nelda, at Upham Oil and Gas in Mineral Wells while they were both employed there. Jim and Nelda lived in Millsap and later moved to Cisco, where he retired from Upham Oil and Gas after 35 years of employment.

Jim was a proud member of Lake Leon Baptist Church. He was an avid Longhorn and Cisco Lobo football fan, and loved hunting with his son. Jim loved listening to old country music in his shop while working on projects. He will always be remembered for his quick wit, dry sense of humor as well as his love of history.

Jim is survived by his wife of 42 years, Nelda Raifsnider Cowan; brother Jeff Cowan and wife Connie of Mineral Wells; sister Melanie Cowan Briggs of Everman; son Jac Cowan and wife Cynthia of Bryan College Station; daughter Diane Cowan of Stephenville; stepchildren Ginet Gordon of Abilene, Dee Ann Aaron of Cisco and John Gordon of Round Rock; grandsons Austin Cowan, Johnathan Gordon and Gavin Aaron; granddaughters Ashton Villerreal, Kathryn Gordon and Macie Gordon; great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Jim's life will be held at Lake Leon Baptist Church at 11:00 AM Saturday, December 28, 2024.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to Lake Leon Baptist Church, 2601 FM 2214, Eastland, TX 76448.
