He was predeceased by: his parents, James W. Ashley Sr. and Masell Artie Nelson; and his siblings, James W. Ashley Jr. and Betty J. Anderson. He is survived by: his children, Robert P. Ashley Jr. and Amber C. Manasco (Brent); his grandchildren, Robert P. Ashley III, Ashleigh and Bailey Manasco; and his sister Artie Alford. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews.
