It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Oscar Eugene Mertink of Midland, Texas, born in Vernon, Texas, who passed away on March 4, 2023, at the age of 82, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, John "Gus" Mertink and Ida Mertink (Buscha); his former wife Christine Mertink; his sister Anna Marie Raschke; his brothers-in-law, Leon Raschke and Fred Mitschke; and his nephews, Tony Raschke and Kenny Raschke.
He is survived by: his wife Darlene Mary Brock; his children, Amanda Francine Mertink and John Allen Mertink; his sister Elinora Mitschke of Austin; his niece Judith (Steve Bryson) of Austin; his great-niece Amanda Mertink of Fort Worth; his great-nephew John Mertink (Tiffany Mertink) of Midland; his grandsons, John Brock Mertink of Midland and Jason Navarre (Pam Navarre); his great grandchildren, Uriah of Thibodaux and Evie of Thibodaux; his nephew Gary Raschke of Vernon; his great-nephew Jeffrey Raschke (Kelsey Raschke); his nephew Dennis Raschke (Dee Raschke) of Iowa Park; his great-niece Angela Baka (Daniel Baka); his niece Lisa Singleton (Casey Singleton); his great-nieces, Melissa Singleton of Chillicothe and Karla Singleton of Chillicothe; and also, Caleb of Electra, Callie of Electra and Olivia Baka of San Antonio.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA).
