He was predeceased by: his parents, Johnnie Wesley and Ivy Evelyn Dolen (Coats); and his children, David Wayne Dolen, Janet Tyner, Gene Ray Dolen and Jon David Dolen.

He is survived by: his wife Peggy Janelle Roberts; his grandchildren, David Tyner, Bradley Tyner, Elspeth and Gwyneth Dolen; and his great grandchildren, Mason, Bailey, Cooper, Asher and Erin Tyner.
