It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Evelyn Jean Atkinson of Mesquite, Texas, who passed away on May 9, 2024, at the age of 81, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

She was predeceased by: her parents, Emmett Halfhill Sr. and Effie Davis Halfhill; her husband Junious Austin Atkinson; her son-in-law Mostafa Shayesteh; and her siblings, Eloise Simpkins, Peggy Westerman, Eva Wulff, Emmett Halfhill Jr. and John Halfhill Sr..

She is survived by: her daughters, Mary Rutherford (Donald) and Brenda Shayesteh; her grandchildren, Scott Rutherford (Savannah), Matthew Rutherford (Emaleah), Justin Shayesteh and Layla Shayesteh; her great grandchildren, Hazel and Ivy Rutherford; and her siblings, Ruth Sutton, Sue Kline, Ann Kimball and Billy Halfhill. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and loving friends.
