He was predeceased by: his parents, Lloyd Smith and Estella Smith; his former wife Sylvia Dawn Smith (Tufts); and his sister Evelyn Rodriguez. He is survived by: his wife Virginia J. Smith of Mercedes, TX; his children, Robyn Wironen (Alan) of Topsham, ME, Kimberly Alpaugh (Gary) of Watertown, MA, Scott Smith (Alexandra) of Wickenburg, AZ and Eric Smith (Dana) of Rio Rancho, NM.; and his stepchildren, Barbie Echols-Gunter of Harlingen, TX, Deborah Parrish (Bobby) of San Benito, TX and Tammy Echols of Harlingen, TX.. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his name to First Baptist Church of Harlingen, TX.
