He is survived by: his wife Linda Thornton of Meadow; his children, Jay Thornton (Alicia) of Lubbock, Donna Thornton of Denton, Stacy Hatton of Ranger and Lainie Thornton of Amarillo; and his sister Lacosta Brunson of Katy. He is also survived by seven grandchildren.
