He was predeceased by: his father Floyd Newton; his former wife Ann Newton; and his son Johnnie Newton, Jr.. He is survived by: his wife Candy Newton; his daughter Julie Newton; his stepson Bill Fisher (Amanda); his son James Newton; his stepdaughter Wendy Craft (Darryll); and his daughter-in-law Sue Newton. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren along with 2 great-grandchildren.
