He was predeceased by: his parents, Clifford R. Byrd and Nellie Ellen Byrd (Tovrea); and his brother Clifford Robert "Bob" Byrd. He is survived by: his wife Janice Byrd of McKinney, Texas; his son Jason Byrd; his daughter-in-law Stephanie Adair Byrd of Dallas; his daughter Rebecca Byrd Terry; his son-in-law Daniel Terry of Charlotte; his grandchildren, Bryson Byrd of Dallas, Brianna Byrd of Dallas, Isabel Terry of Charlotte and Sophia Terry of Charlotte; and his sister-in-law Ellen Byrd of Fort Worth, Texas..

Following his service in the Air Force, Jerry went to work for a new mission organization in Dallas, World Evangelism Foundation, which facilitated lay people going overseas on short-term mission trips.
