He was predeceased by: his parents, Epifanio Melendez and Julia Melendez; his siblings, Juan, Lorenzo, Soccorro, Maria, Esperanza, Francisca and Jesusa; and his children, Rosalinda Melendez and Johnny Joe Melendez.
He is survived by: his wife Antonia; his sons, Joel Melendez of Ft. Stockton, TX and Robert Melendez of Midland, TX; his siblings, Blasa Juarez of McCamey and Manuel Melendez of McCamey; his grandchildren, Christal Hernandez of Odessa, Angela Hernandez of Odessa, Miguel Hernandez of Odessa, Mirella Melendez of Midland, Marissa Melendez of Midland, J. J. Melendez of Midland, Alex Melendez of Midland and Jon Michael Melendez of Dallas; and his great grandchildren, Jaime Melendez of Midland, Jessica Sauceda of Midland, Viviana Sauceda of Midland, Victoria Hernandez of Odessa and Leanna Hernandez of Odessa.
