He was predeceased by: his grandsons, Zachary and Dustin Hinojosa; his parents, Beatriz Garcia and Ovidio Garcia; his godparents, Juan and Otila Olivarez; and his brother Jose Ovidio Garcia.

He is survived by: his significant other Araceli; his children, Rene Fernando Garcia, Jr. (Cynthia), Rena Soliz (ϮRene), Araceli Garcia, Michelle Sauceda (Hector) and Denise Cantu (Rueben); and his grandchildren, Daniel Garza, Tiffany Martinez, Samantha Alonzo, Daniel Allen Garcia, Jennifer Kent, Felicia Garcia, Hugo Cantu Jr., Nicole Cantu, Emily Young and Aris Soliz. He is also survived by 9 step-grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 9 step-great grandchildren.
