He was predeceased by: his parents, Domingo Alvarez and San Juanita Elizondo; and his brothers, Reymundo Alvarez and Francisco Alvarez. He is survived by: his wife Marbella Garcia Alvarez; his children, Marbella Guadalupe Alvarez, Oscar Mario Alvarez, Ricardo Alvarez (Julia C. Lopez) and Elsa Alvarez Salinas (Jose Enrique); and his siblings, Yanira A. Barrera, Amado Alvarez, Raul Alvarez and Jorge Luis Alvarez. He is also survived by his 6 grandchildren.
