She was predeceased by: her parents, Elias Hernandez and Basilia Hernandez; and her sister Belia Garcia. She is survived by: her husband Adolfo Martinez; her children, Judith Martinez-Palacios, Adriana Martinez-Perez and David Martinez (Monica); her grandchildren, Gabriella Palacios, Sofia Perez, David Martinez, Lucas Perez, Julia Martinez, Michael Palacios and Nicolas Martinez; and her sister Belen Garcia.

Their dedication to education led them to establish the Adolfo and Bertha Martinez Foundation at Pan American University and continues to provide financial assistance to students in need at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
