It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Luis Enrique Vela of McAllen, Texas, who passed away on May 14, 2022, at the age of 75, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Margarito Vela and Crecencia Delgado Vela; and his siblings, Jose Vela, Margarito Vela, Teresa Vela and Maria Angelica "Nena" Palacios.

He is survived by: his wife Janie Vela; his children, Maggie Vela, Bertha Vela, Sylvia Ann Vela and Luis Enrique Vela Jr.; his sister Graciela "Chela" Vela; and his son-in-law Alexander Sanchez. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
