He was predeceased by: his parents, Sigifredo Barrera and Argelia Barrera; and his brother Gustavo. He is survived by: his wife Marisela Barrera; and his sons, David Barrera Jr. (Alyssa), Dominic Barrera (Aracely) and Derek Barrera. He is also survived by numerous siblings, nieces, and nephews.

“Marisela My condolences to you and your family. David my high school and college best friend taught me how to play racket ball and how to Live and have fun. Still remember going to San Antonio to take his sister back to the base and we got lost and ended up in Corpus Christie .He was an amazing friend and he will be greatly missed . I remember how excited he was to have met Marisela and I knew then I had been replaced. My dear friend I will miss you. Sincerely Jerry and Stephanie Lerma”
