He was predeceased by: his parents, Ernest B. Smith and Leona Madine Smith (Holt); and his brother Denny Smith. He is survived by: his daughter Carrie Tomlinson (Gary); and his grandchildren, Levi Buckner (Hailey), Candace Buckner, Schyler Tomlinson (Anne), Chase Buckner (Emily), Taylor Elliot (Regan) and Tristan Tomlinson.
