He was predeceased by: his parents, Christian Hegefeld and Emma Hegefeld (Ewert); his wife Betty Neal; and his siblings, Edmund Richard Hegefeld, Chris Hegefeld, Elsie Steed, Elnora Walker, Selma Mulsow and Ruby Radle.

He is survived by: his sons, Bill Hegefeld (Nell) of Marlin, TX and Stewart Hegefeld of Austin, TX; his grandchildren, Neal Hegefeld (Amy) of Lake Jackson, TX, Justin Hegefeld (Carisa) of Lowell, AR, Lance Hegefeld (Mary) of Georgetown, TX, Ryan Hegefeld (Stormi) of Gatesville, TX, Kristina Banasik (Brian) of Cedar Park, TX and Katie Stufflebeam (Matt) of Elm Mott, TX; and his brother Raymond Hegefeld (Barbara) of Kaufman, TX.. He is also survived by thirteen great-granddaughters and seven great-grandsons.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the First Christian Church of Marlin, Texas.
