He was predeceased by: his parents, Simuel Howard and Martha Faye Putman; and his sister Joyce Jackson. He is survived by: his wife Gene Ann; his sons, Mark (Belinda), Michael (Katrina) and Wesley (Marcella); his sisters, Theada James and Vicki Eudy; and his grandchildren, Krystin Dunagan (Kevin), Joshua Putman (Kacy), Whitney Archer (Daniel), Jared Putman, Amber Sladek, Taylor Altomore (Jared), Garrett Putman (Athen), Summer Putman, Luke Putman (Krista), Cody Putman and Loren Putman. He is also survived by 9 great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations to be sent to Fellowship Baptist Church.
