He was predeceased by: his parents, Elavde and J. L.; his wife Glenda Pearl Smith; his granddaughter Kiana; and his brothers, J. L. Smith, Jr. and Henry Lee Smith.
He is survived by: his siblings, Alvin Smith (Louisiana), Dorothy, Mary Smith and Tressie Harrell; his children, James Smith, Jr. (Tabitha), Greg Smith, Calvin Smith (Diretha), Darren Smith (Rachel), Glenda K. Green (Michael, Sr.), Lois A. Randall (Jamar), Michelle Smith, Roshondra Smith, LaSoya R. Dickey (Jerome), Lavina F. Smith, Joslyn D. Crockett (Ronnie), Sheneki Y. Smith and Antesia D. Simpson (Sam); and his close friend Ella Mae Huey. He is also survived by thirty-eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, combined with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
