He was predeceased by: his parents, Otho Johnson and Laura Johnson; and his siblings, Peggy Sue, Betty Jo, Otho Howie and Jimmy Lee.

He is survived by: his siblings, Gerald Wayne, Mary Lois and Rendy Kay; his children, Andrew, James, Vickie and Shirley Powell; his granddaughter Victoria; and his stepmother Katherine Johnson. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews.
