He is survived by: his wife Vanna Duncan Downey; his sons, John Downey and Mat Downey (Crystal); his siblings, Ralph Kester Jr. (Debbie), Tom Kester, Janet Johnson and Sheryl Noble (Jim Taylor); his grandchildren, Vanessa Downey (Caleb Hendrix), Lauren Barger (Ethan), Zoe Keel, Zackary Moore and Cameron Downey; and his great grandchildren, Ezra Barger, Asher Barger and Blair Barger.

Visitation was held on Sunday, March 30th 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Lumberton Family Funeral Home (766 S Main St, Lumberton, TX 77657). A funeral service was held on Monday, March 31st 2025 at 2:00 PM at the same location. A committal service was held on Monday, March 31st 2025 at 3:30 PM at the Williamson Cemetery (6400 N Main St, Vidor, TX 77662).
