She was predeceased by: her sons, Richard A. Askey and Michael T. Gordon; her parents, Minnie M. Hardaway and Homer Jones; her sisters, Ruby D. Freeman and Callie B. Hardaway; and her stepsiblings, Lena P. Hodge and Hubert.
She is survived by: her sons, James E. Gordon, III of Austin, TX, Kenneth D. Gordon (Georgia) of Luling, TX and Jacques D. Gordon (Mikki) of Pflugerville, TX; her stepbrother Albert Clark; her daughter-in-law Chris Gordon; and her grandchildren, Angela Askey, Steven Askey, Stephanie Askey, Jerome Evans, Natasha Gordon, Kaylah Burton and Joshua Gordon. She is also survived by great-great grand-children, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The foundation of all she learned was created in the small CME Church where the Sunday school lesson was taught from cards and leaflets with reference to the Holy Spirit.
