He was predeceased by: his parents, Alvie Shafer and Exa McDonald Shafer; his wife Lillie Mae Polasek Shafer; and his siblings, Velma, Mamie, Lester, Louie, Tillman and Norman.
He is survived by: his children, Linda Valenta, Tyann Fowler (Danny), Tim Shafer (Karen) and Lamar Shafer (Susan); and his siblings, Violet, Anna and Joe. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and numerous great great-grandchildren.
