He was predeceased by: his parents, Levi Horton and Ida Horton Sr.; his son David Joshua Horton; and his brothers, Eddie Horton and Wayne Horton.

He is survived by: his significant other Barbara Liles; his children, Levi Horton III, James Daniel (Daisy), Mary Katherine Horton and Roberta Colwell; and his siblings, Ida Welkey, Stella Horton and Earl Horton. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren; and nine great- grandchildren.
