Beloved father, husband and friend, James "Jim" Howard Johnson went to join the Lord on Tuesday, March 6 after a courageous battle with cancer. Jim was born on May 31, 1950 in Sterling, Illinois. He leaves behind a wife, Donnie Sue, of which he was married to for nearly fifty years. They had a love that survived the anxiety of a year-long separation by war, several cross country moves and ultimately illness.
Not even cancer could break the immortal bond shared by them. Jim was a proud Vietnam war veteran having served a tour of duty in 1969. He spent most of his life in Texas working in the chemical industry in the La Porte area. He retired from Dow Chemical in 2006. He is preceded in death by his parents. Dad was a people person never afraid to share his opinion or a funny anecdote whenever the opportunity arose.
He had a love for animals and was one to never pass by a hungry dog or cat without stopping to feed them. There was nothing that he couldn't fix; all it took was a little elbow grease, paint and a little caulk and whatever was broke was as good as new. He will be missed more than he will ever know. He is survived by his loving wife, Donnie Sue Johnson; two sisters, Pam Woolbright, and Gaynel Westbrook and husband Jim; two brothers, Dean Dennis and Howard Helms; three sons, James Robert and spouse Angela, Owen Dean and spouse Kelly, and Aaron Max; daughter, Anna Belle Lynn and spouse James McCarry; four grandsons, James Dallas Johnson, Oren Bleeker, Nathaniel Johnson, and Nicholas Johnson; four granddaughters, Madison Johnson, Meredith Johnson, Carlie Bleeker, and Natalie Johnson; along with numerous other relatives and friends.
