He was predeceased by: his parents, George Hales and Lila Faye Goldman; his brother Richard Hales; his in-laws, Bill and Phyllis Stutts; and his stepfather Charles Weaver.
He is survived by: his wife Harriett Hales; his children, Jay Hales II (Taylor) and Jacinda Lewis (Billy); his grandchildren, Jesse Hales Price, Joe Lewis, Justin Hales, Hailey Lewis, Jacob Hales, Zane Lewis, Jewel Hales, Jayce Avery Hales, Jordan Hales, Zachary Abbott and Paisley McLoud; his great grandchildren, Beaux Price and Westin Price; and his siblings, Lora Elizabeth Bedford (Johnny), Maxine LaFour (Dink) and Wesley Hales (Debbie). He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, February 18th 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel (406 N Yaupon Ave, Livingston, TX 77351). A funeral service was held on Wednesday, February 19th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the same location.
